How to photograph and price your car for sale

By E-Biz Vehicle Services ·

Photos decide whether a buyer clicks; price decides whether they enquire. Both are within your control and neither costs anything but an hour of your time.

Shoot in soft light

Early morning or late afternoon avoids harsh shadows and blown highlights. Park away from clutter, wind the windows up, and keep yourself out of the reflections.

The shot list

Ten good photographs beat thirty repetitive ones.

  • Front three-quarter and rear three-quarter
  • Both full sides, level with the car
  • Interior front and rear seats
  • Dashboard with odometer reading visible
  • Boot space, engine bay and one tyre
  • Honest close-ups of any damage

Setting the asking price

Find three comparable vehicles currently listed, note their mileage and condition, and place yours honestly among them. Leave a small, deliberate margin for negotiation rather than a large one that signals the price is soft.

If a fortnight passes with views but no enquiries, the price is usually the issue rather than the photographs.
